A Showcase for Seashell Art
Miniature Picture - "Victorian Splendour"

This miniature floral bouquet was created for the 2007 Sanibel Shell Show, where it won a
second-place ribbon.  The floral bouquet was created on an octagonal beveled-edge mirror
measuring 5.5" across, which is held upright on a clear lucite picture stand.  The flower vase was
created with a Calico Scallop shell underneath White Rice shells in a pattern reminiscent of the
Rice shell baskets created in Victorian times.  The base of the vase was created with a translucent
Tagelus shell covered by white Rice shells.  The idea for the flowers and foliage came from a
beautiful Victorian-era shellcraft boutonniere on display at a prior shell show.  For this floral
arrangement under glass, the flowers and buds were created with white and pink Fairy Tellin
shells, with foliage of delicate wired white Rice shells.  The picture was finished by creating a
white Rice shell "rope" surrounding the convex glass cover.
