Born and raised near the shores of the Atlantic, my affinity for the seashore
is part of my soul. Although currently living far from the sea, I continue
my connection with all things nautical by creating miniature shellcraft
"things of beauty" for exhibit and sale.
I've been crafting since my teens, progressing through leathercraft, tatting,
pressed flowers, and now shellcraft. In addition to creating "purist" entries
(using natural, non-dyed shells) for the Shell Shows I've entered, I create
jewelry and pictures using vintage miniature shells I've collected from craft
supplies available from the 1930s to 1950s, which were dyed pretty shades
for use as petals in creating seashell flowers.
My foray into shellcraft has been rather rewarding. I've entered my
artwork in juried competitions in Sanibel Island (the largest and longest-
running shell show) and Philadelphia. From March 2006 through March
2007, of the 11 categories I entered, I was fortunate enough to win 12
awards -- 6 first-place ribbons, 2 second-place ribbons, 2 third-place
ribbons, as well as being awarded the trophy for best miniature floral
arrangement in each of the two consecutive Sanibel Shell Shows entered.
I hope your browse through my shellcraft "things of beauty" conjures up
images of soft sea breezes and heart-warming walks on warm sandy
beaches – a few of the things that do this old heart a world of good!
